What matters in life and in eternal life is staying close to God and enjoying his presence. First Corinthians 7:17-24 expands on Paul's rule of thumb: that Christians should remain in whatever situation they were in when they came to faith in Christ. Then Paul expands that principle to show us that its a general principle that should affect all of our lives. What Paul is talking about here, hes not laying out the gospel message about what Jesus Christ has done for us. The Bible tells us that He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:7).
